Pre & Post Menopause

Menopause

Menopause is a natural process that causes radical psychological changes to every woman. Menopause is defined as the absence of menstruation for 12 months, which typically occurs around the age of 51. However, menopause can also occur naturally between a woman’s late thirties all the way to her late fifties, or anytime a woman’s uterus and ovaries are surgically removed.

Perimenopause

Perimenopause occurs two to fifteen years before the onset of menopause. During this time women still retain their period, but experience changes that may be exacerbate their premenstrual symptoms. These changes are due to declining levels of estrogen and progesterone, which may result in hot flashes, changes in her menstrual cycle, period load, and period cramping. Other issues that women normally experience are changes in mood and irritability, problems with memory and attention span, difficulty sleeping, vaginal dryness, and urinary leaking.

Post Menopause

Postmenopause is specific to the time after a woman’s last menstrual period. The most common side effects are diminished sexual interest, diminished sexual arousal, vaginal dryness, thinning of the vaginal wall, diminished lubrication, diminished intensity of orgasm, or painful intercourse. Since menopausal symptoms are different for each individual, you may feel some of these symptoms, all of these symptoms, or none of them.
